THE; 'I don't Care Era'

Humanity, for thousands of years have always been really social, interactive and living in communal patterns across societies around the world. Historically, communes, kingdoms and even empires had a strong sense of harmony and unity amongst themselves, been that, whatever happens to one is regarded by most as a subject of concern.

Africa to be more specific, had more sense of communalism than the rest of the world, but lately, things are turning the opposite direction. Back in the day, people sat at home or in cinemas watching movies or TV shows. Hanging out was more often than it is now and an issue or event in the society (like independence day, festivals and international celebrations or war/crisis) was a subject of interest to be deliberated by people in the society. This was all because many people "cared" or "gave a damn".

Societies around the world, especially the Nigerian society have many individuals who don't bother about a lot of things in society anymore. Like I stated earlier, families watched movies and TV more often and the cinema was often visited but now, it's all in people's phone, leaving people to be less interactive. Many Nigerians like others around the world have adopted the culture of "minding their business".

Recently, the Nation of Israel was engaged in a conflict with the Hamas terror organisation that has now led to a war. Shockingly enough, a large number of people in the world right now don't care enough and don't want to have an opinion or pick a side and it's obvious because a lot of people have romanticized the "I don't care" attitude. It has grown so much and it's so because people fail to see that issues that seem far fetched has a way of affecting them.

Now, Social psychologists have pointed out that minding one's business is highly beneficial to an individual's self growth, but the degree to which it's done is a matter of concern. It's obviously a thin line between minding one's business and been deliberately insensitive to issues in the society. I don't care attitude to a certain degree can lead to more isolation and less collective development when it comes to tackling social issues.

But personally, what do you think? Do you see more positive result as people gradually shift to "minding their business" more?
